There's over half a dozen different ways to run Claude Code, two of which most people are familiar with. That's going to be through the desktop app and through Claude Code CLI, which is essentially through a terminal. Anthropic's done a great job of aligning the capabilities between the two, but there are a couple key differences, especially if you're running a business, that matter immensely.
The first being that Claude Code through the desktop app has no access to outside messaging channels. So, if you have a team that works together or collaborates, you cannot run Claude Code through Slack, WhatsApp, Telegram, or any other external channels. You're locked strictly to the desktop app and the Claude mobile app.
And the second one ties directly into this, actually. So, Claude on the desktop can take zero initiative on pretty much anything. While it can run scheduled jobs, it runs in Anthropic's cloud, so no access to your machine, your files, or contacts regarding your business.
However, in the terminal, you can set up things like lead follow-up. So, when you get a lead, Claude can wake up, research the lead, draft a reply, and send it to you through Telegram for approval. If you run any type of business, having the ability to have Claude Code act on your behalf with your business contacts is imperative to maximizing the use of AI.
And the majority of the other benefits to having Claude Code in the terminal all relate to that exact same thing, Claude taking initiative without you having to prompt it. And for any of you who are maybe a little fearful of the terminal, the fact that you can run Claude Code CLI through messaging apps totally alleviates this fear. You don't need to look at a terminal, you don't need to know code, you don't need to type in the terminal, you don't need to stare at the screen.
Everything could be done through text or voice notes through many of these messaging apps. So, if you're tired of being stuck computer or you want to implement real autonomous workflows, my suggestion would be to download the Claude Code CLI, connect it to a messaging app like Telegram, and leverage Claude's ability to truly take initiative.
